The great lakes, the inland seas of North America. Spanning nearly one-third of the distance from New York to Los Angels, these left-overs of the ice age are a vital piece to the puzzle that is America’s commerce and industry. Connecting inland cities as far as Marquette, MI to the Atlantic by water allows for cheaper and more efficient trade of the gold of America’s Heart-land around the world.

And while the great lakes use of commerce is profound, perhaps the most enduring quality of their formations is simply their beauty. There are few that do not know of the Niagara Falls. Thousands flock there each year to catch a glimpse of the water as it cascades over the ancient cliffs and to take in the scent of the mists which escape those falls.

Though there are more things to say about these lakes than can be put into words, they are a natural piece of art to not only be taken in by today’s people, but preserved for generations to come.

Sometimes called landlocked seas, the five massive lakes collectively contain 22% of the world’s fresh surface water and are so deep that they could uniformly cover the entire continental United States in 9.5 feet of water.

With their combined surface area totaling 94,250 square miles, the Great Lakes are altogether about the same size as the United Kingdom and, due to their size and location, have played a critical role in the economies of both the United States and Canada.

One of the main, yet simple features of Chicago tourism is the fact that it provides so many options. One of them is when Broadway visits the city. As a tourist, you will certainly appreciate Chicago’s theatres and the Broadway tour. Even as the popularity of the renowned Broadway stands on its own, Chicago offers its version of the excitement.

The Ford Center for the Performing Arts, Oriental Theatre is truly a thrilling attraction in regards to the action- packed Chicago tourism guide. You will be pleased with the theatres tour guides and all its pleasurable sites. Visiting the theatre is very simple as there are no lines to fight as opposed to your traditional Broadway. The tickets can be purchased right at the Oriental box office or you can bypass the clawing crowd digging for Wicket tickets and stop by the Cadillac Palace’s box office where there is no wait. You are on your way to become a participant of Chicago’s personal version of Broadway.

The enthusiastic and knowledgeable theatre employees will help you discover how and when the Oriental Theater became a major attraction for Chicago tourism. “Chicago’s Theatres” are considered the golden nugget of the tour. Surprisingly enough, the urban sprawl, multi- plexes and television were once successful with shutting the attraction down. Thankfully the daily administration restored it.

The golden nugget capitalizes on the whimsical figures of the Indian Princesses. The Broadway attraction brings cats and monkeys to life as you also learn about the building’s design and restoration process. You are subject to a question and answer session while simultaneously touring the main floor. As a tourist, you will be captivated by the enormous chandelier and fascinated by the Orchestra Pit. As you can imagine, there is a great deal of excitement in Chicago. Specifically, the theaters are a magnificent start as you become a part of the Chicago tourism revolution.

Large glacial lake that once existed in North America and covered most of the area now occupied by three Great Lakes (Superior, Michigan, and Huron). Lake Algonquin was present in the Pleistocene Epoch (approximately 1.8 million to 11,800 years ago), a geologic glacial period when the Laurentide Ice Sheet was retreating northward from the Great Lakes region. The body of water, perhaps 250,000 square km (100,000 square miles) in area and with depths of up to 460 metres (1,500 feet), at various stages drained through channels that included the Trent River valley and the Mattawa, Ottawa, St. Clair, and Mississippi rivers. Remnants of the lake include Lakes Superior, Michigan, Huron, Nipigon, Simcoe, and Nipissing.
